The Open Championship Podcast, Draftkings Picks, and Bets

Listen to the podcast below as Axis, and guest Sky, dive into The Open Championship field!

The Open – Royal Birkdale

7156 yards, Par 70

Links are back in our life and The Open is here.  Royal Birkdale was a tough test when it was last played in 2008, yielding a +3 winner, Padraig Harrington.  If the wind picks up, prepare for another battle.  All in all, it will be a test, being penal missing fairways or getting trapped in bunkers. I will be keying in on accuracy, approach shots and a golfers game around the green (as well as sprinkling in other stats as usual).

If you remember last year, you were pretty well done if you didn’t have players teeing off in the best weather stack.  The wind destroyed half the field both days and left lineups limping that missed the window.  It will behoove you to check the weather leading up to The Open to see if stacking an AM or PM wave will be beneficial.

Key Stats (no order):

SG:Tee to Green
SG:Approach
Driving Accuracy
SG:ATG/Scrambling
Approach: 150-175 yards
Birdie or better%/Bogey Avoidance (especially with wind)

Ian Poulter 90/1
Rafa Cabrera Bello 100/1

As you can see, throughout the years I’ve just been making what I have felt to be value bets, amassing quite the card compared to a normal week.

John Deere Recap:

Sadly, the top LU had another loss this week. Only the second time all season I’ve had back to back losers, but it’s part of the game! Another weak field that got the best of me. I really like Na and can’t believe how poorly he played and same with Taylor, who had been playing so well. I was worried about Watney and those worries came to fruition. What hurt the most was this was my $333 LU. Oops! On to The Open!
