NHL Cash Core, December 21st
Alexander Steen – LW – 8.1k
I can’t say I really like the choices at LW much tonight so I’ll spend up for at least Steen. He has six points in his L3 games, and 11 points in his L8. That’s a lot of production coming into a game in which the Blues should dominate. He typically produces 3-4 shots/gm and he’s playing point on the top PP Unit which is giving him more opportunities for assists. The Blues PP should be able to take advantage of Phillies weaker PK unit and Steen could benefit.
Blake Wheeler – RW – 7.0k
The Jets are 7th in team scoring this season and Wheelers leads the team with 33 points in 32 games. Edmonton is not known for their defense and the Jets have a great shot to have a 4+ goal game. They also give up a fair amount of goals so they rarely let off the pedal and play keep away. Wheeler plays with Little and Ladd on the top line and top PP Unit and they are one of the higher producing top lines in the league. I like the upside against the Oilers.
Nicklas Backstrom – C – 6.1k
Ovi is too expensive for me right now in cash games but I can perhaps get a piece of his upside by playing Backstrom. Nicklas is a great setup man for Ovi, but can score himself. He has 10 points in his L10, with eight of those points being assists. It’s a safe bet that if Ovi has a big game, Backstrom will have a hand in it. He has great upside for 6.1k and allows you to spend up elsewhere.
Leon Draisaitl – C 3.8k
Leon is in Kane territory for the most part; not talent wise, but a lock due to value/price. FD refuse to adjust his price for his upside. As I mentioned earlier, the Jets give up a lot of goals so it’s nice being able to get a top line center for under 4.0k. He has 10 points in his L10, including a 4 assist game. Get him in your lineups and enjoy the savings in a nice match up.
