Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks, October 23rd
Another mixed bag of results last night but positive in the ROI so I’ll keep the complaining to a minimum. I played the Hamburgler in a few places and he really hurt me with that late collapse against a NJ team with limited offense. For as much as the Senators have been scoring they’ve been giving up a lot of goals as well. Seguin/Benn finally cooled down but the Stars offense still poured in four goals with help from their blueline. The Pens offense continues to sputter and the Blue Jackets are still a dumpster fire. The Wild saved me last night with their first and second lines coming through.
1. Montreal Canadiens
Montreal is playing the best hockey as a team in the league and they’re facing Buffalo. The Sabers, as I always say, are improving but they can’t match up with Montreal. Buffalo isn’t playing bad hockey by any means but they are still not quite there defensively. The Sabers PK is currently the worst in the league and hopefully Montreal can take advantage. I’ll be targeting Gallagher/Plekanec/Pacioretty, and perhaps some Subban on the blueline.
2. Washington Capitals
This is a mismatch and although Washington is playing on a b2b they aren’t traveling too far and should still control the game. Edmonton is one of the worst possession teams in the league facing one of the better teams. Ovechkin needs no explanation and Kuznetsov and Oshie will continue to reap the benefits of playing on a line with him. They haven’t been dumping the goals in but if they are going to have a huge game, this could be it.
3. Boston Bruins
I’m going to play Boston’s top line here instead of some other more popular picks on the night. I like to mix up the 3rd team when possible and go against the grain. The top line of Marchand/Bergeron/Eriksson is playing superb hockey, despite the rest of their team. Their possession numbers are astounding (all in double digits) and their facing a middle of the pack Islanders team. Their PP is also rocking right now so I’m going to ride the train. It also may not hurt to toss Krejci in a couple lineups; he’s an all-star when healthy and a top player in the league.
RW – Nikolaj Ehlers (Great value play, way underpriced)
LW – Ovechkin
C – Patrice Bergeron
C – Backstrom
G – To early to say who will be starting all the games but if you want a cheap tender in a good match up, Condon is starting for Montreal and Grubauer is starting for the Capitals.
