Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks, October 21st
1. Detroit Red Wings
Honestly, I’m backing Detroit here because their top line has been scoring all season but you could very well place Edmonton here as well. Both teams haven’t played that great to begin the season but something has to give here so I’ll side with Detroit’s offense against weaker goaltending. Larkin continues to be a steal and Abdelkader is benefiting greatly still from playing with Zetterberg and Larkin. Mrazek is also a solid target in net. Sure, the Oilers do have offensive talent but it hasn’t quite gelled together as a unit yet.
2. Toronto Maple Leafs
It’s kind of strange looking through the stat columns and not seeing Toronto near the bottom. They have been a team I’ve faded for quite some time but that could begin to change. Tonight I’ll be targeting them against a young Buffalo team. I’ll be looking mainly at van Riemsdyk/Kadri/Komarov and sprinkle in Phaneuf on the blue line. As a team they have struggled to score but tonight is as good of a chance to break out as any.
3. Carolina Hurricanes
How bad have the Avalanche been playing? The answer is putrid. Despite Carolina’s early season record they have been one of the better possession teams in the league. On a small slate this a great time to grab them and I bet more people will be on Colorado. Eric Staal and Versteeg will be the main targets (great for cash as well) and I will have some McGinn but I’ll be using Jeff Skinner at LW as well. Salary permitting I will try as hard as I can to get Faulk on the blue line and to be honest that may not be too difficult on tonight’s slate with so much value out there and not a lot of pricey options.
